Hi,
A couple of things in blackjack. First, shouldn't the computer (as in most casual games I've played in various school lunch rooms) inform the player of the first card he is delt before the player is required to bet? I have not seen this feature in most online games, so maybe it's A Canadian thing, or maybe even something spacific to my particular group of friends? I'm not sure. As the game stands now, the player is betting blind (forgive the expression) and everything falls to luck. Also, the player should be informed when the cards are reshuffled for those of us who like to try and keep track of what cards have already gone buy in the deck when placing bets. Oh, and why no surrender option? As the game stands now it can't be used as there is no propper way to calculate ods, but still. Also, what about insurance (if dealer turns up an ace)? Maybe I've somehow missed some of these options (or misunderstood the rules) as after seeing that, yet again, I wouldn't be shown my first card before betting I never really looked at the blackjack before tonight.
Um on here doesn't the computer show the player his first card? I thoguht it did...
Yes, you can see the computers first card as well as your two. However, you can't see your first card before betting begins. That's generally the way I've played (gives you something to bet on), and according to someone who owns a braille light that's the way the blackjack game on the braille light works.
Yeah, I noticed that too. That would be a nice option, so would being able to get insurance when the dealer has an ace.
I've noticed that the casino games by Jim Kitchen also require you to bet blind. As for "counting" in the Zone Blackjack, I think the deck is shuffled with each hand, thereby "leveling" the field for those who don't know how:).
Yeah, I figured that out after I made this post. Does anyone know of a decent (IE not requiring blind bets) blackjack game that doesn't shuffle every hand, that includes surrenders, double down, splits, and insurance? I need the practice. Oh, and it has to work with jaws of course. Liam, you're going to write one, right? I'd buy it. Not that you can recover cost with one purchase, but still. I've tried several blackjack games and they're all missing one or more of the above.
I know I said I don't buy games, but I'm a bit obsessive about card games. My entire family is. Don't get any of us started. Especially computer card games. If it won't comply with our house rules we become quite upset. I have found extremely few card games that make me happy. Allinplay wasn't too bad, they have enough tables that one of them is usually the "right" one. Although...crazy eights with five or three or whatever cards? That's just stupid. Who ever thought up that one? I mean, the name....oh, nevermind. sorry.
I've never heard of getting one card before the bet. You don't get that in the casinos, at least here in the U.S. As for insurance, I'm planning on adding it. We currently support double down for 10 and 11 and splits, including multiple splits which a lot of Blackjack games don't have. We currently shuffle after each hand, but this may be able to be changed. But if we did this, we may also go to multiple decks.
Sounds good. Like I say, I'm not of the age where they let me in casino's yet, so it could just be a quirk of the people I regularly play with. If those are honestly not official rules, I'll shut up and go away. Still, I like our way better. Also, the braille light game does it that way (I've seen it). Then again, it was written by a Canadian as far as I know.
could very well be a Canadian thing. Why not Google it and see what you find.
Yup. I could only find this rule listed in one place, and even then it was noted as rare. Huh. The dangers of playing only with one group of people. I'll go look up some other games I assumed I knew and see how far we've strayed from "official" rules. Forget it.
